The Marathon County Medical Advisor Project was started in partnership with the Marshfield Clinic Health Care System. The goal was to provide high-quality, real time advising to area school nurses.
A component of the Medical Advisor Project was the creation of the Central Wisconsin School Nurses Group. A free, collaborative organization brings together school nurses from central Wisconsin to share information, engage in professional development, and create universal practices that enhance communication with medical providers.
The Central Wisconsin School Nurses, a consortium initially comprising the ten public school districts in Marathon County, has grown since 2018 to include over twenty school districts in central Wisconsin. The C.W.S.N. meets monthly as a forum for discussing nursing issues, a workshop for designing school nursing forms and documents, and a source of education and training in school health topics presented by area clinicians and other providers. Examples of documents developed include a standardized medication administration authorization form, standardized action plans for various emergencies, and a standardized nursing activity report form.
The Central Wisconsin School Nurses group meets on the third Tuesday of each month. To learn more about this group, email Lara Beranek at lberanek@mcse.k12.wi.us
