The Marathon County Medical Advisor Project was started in partnership with the Marshfield Clinic Health Care System. The goal was to provide high-quality, real time advising to area school nurses. School nurses are in integral part of the health services provided to students. Particularly during the pandemic, the need for support and collaboration with and among our health services increased. The medical advisor is on key support to ensure continuity of care and guidance on general health issues.
The medical advisor for Marathon County Special Education provides the following:
- Assistance with Policy and Procedures for student care
- Training and support to both licensed and unlicensed personnel
- Advocacy in the schools and community for children's health
- Coordination between providers and schools regarding continuity of care
- Connections to behavioral health personnel, including identification, referral, treatment, and training for children and families
- Work with school personnel and local Boards on children's health issues
- collaborates with Public Health officials on areas of mutual interest
